When Disney opened the Disney-MGM Studios on May 1, 1989,
Michael Eisner described it as "the Hollywood that never was and
always will be". Evidence of this is found as soon as you approach
the main gates, which are fashioned after the Los Angeles Pan-
Pacific Auditorium of 1935. The shops of Hollywood Boulevard
and Sunset Boulevard are replicas of well-known Hollywood
architecture of the 1930's and 1940's. The chrome Art Deco style
of of the Golden Age of Hollywood is abundant here. Even the signature Earffel Tower is representative of old Hollywood as each studio had a water tower on their lots for heating, cooling and emergency uses. Parts of the 135 acre park are working studios for the television and motion picture industry.
Guests can get a behind the scenes look at how special effects are done and watch animators at work on tours such as the Backstage Pass tour, Backlot Studios tour and the Magic of Disney Animation. Entertaining stage shows and productions such as "Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage", "Voyage of the Little Mermaid", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Indiana JonesTM Epic Stunt Spectacular!" are sure to thrill the whole family.
