This is the latest and largest of the Disney water parks. Opened in April of 1995, Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park was built because of the continued popularity of the two other water parks.
The official story about the creation of Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park centers around a freak snow storm. As the snow melted around Florida's first ski lodge, designers saw an alligator sliding down the slopes. This gave them the idea of turning the ski jumps and slopes into water rides.
Slalom courses, bobsled and toboggan runs became downhill waterslides. The creek of melted snow that formed at the base of the mountain became a relaxing tube ride. The chairlift carried swimmers instead of skiers. The ski jump became the tallest and fastest water slide in the world. The ski resort became known as Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, the must slushy, slippery, exhilarating water park anywhere!
